Julia Gillard’s remark made it around the world, but it shows, how little she – and her admirers – think. She wants the Australian Monarchy to finish when the Queen dies. “The Queen is dead! Long live the King! will shout the heralds.

Abolishing the Monarchy is a long process and will take a couple of years. King Charles will have his coronation during th preparations for a referendum. It is the Australian people who decide and not the politicians. In the 1999 referendum 54 percent of the Australians said No to a republic and the sympathies for a republic have dropped, as an opinion poll published this week revealed.
